Okay, first: IT'S UNBELIEVABLE!!!!
Went to the bookshop at around 10, got my book, smiled like an idiot, went to Starbucks, flirted a bit with the prettiest Starbucks-guy you'll ever meet, got me a hot chocolate, sat down and STARTED TO READ.
The first chapter blew me away, seriously. Rowling's first chapters usually suck a bit, but this was great - Tony Blair! It was so clear that Tony Blair was the model for the Prime Minister! Fun fun fun!
The second chapter was really good, too, although now that I've finished the book of course I can't help from puzzling about it A LOT. You know, I think Snape loves Draco like the son he has never had, that's why he did the Unbreakable Vow, not because he wanted to prove his loyality to Voldemort. And this is really breaking my heart - well, not as much as the end of the book, of course.
Okay, some reactions in real time:
- Aaaaw poor Tonks, I wonder what's up with her?
- God, Fred and George are SO going to die!
- Draco is seriously scary, but seriously cool all the same.
- Yai, more from Blaise Zabini! (High cheekbones, hahhaha!)
- McGonagall paying compliments to Neville? Aaaaaw!
- Hermione explaining what she smells in the love potion is SO CUTE! You just know that she's about to say "and Ron!"
- The young Dumbledore in the Pensieve must have looked like one of the Beatles at around Sergeant Pepper's
- OMG HERMIONE AND RON! OTP!
- OMG RON AND LAVENDER!!!!????!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
- "Harry was left to ponder in silence the depths to which girls would sink to get revenge." Hahahahahaahaha. Also: Rowling's style has really improved - or is it just me?
- OMG Snape is SO dead with Defence Against The Dark Arts and protecting Draco from whatever! (Erm, yes. That was what I thought on p 300 or something.)
- Harry pisses me off, he's not doing what he's supposed to do AGAIN - at least concerning Slughorn.
- What? Tonks in love with Sirius? Her cousin? Eeeeeeww nooooo you're messing up the OTP!!1nowufhwo
- Horcrux! OMG! That's absolutely dreadful! Also, seven bloody parts?? How is he supposed to find them all?
- Ha, Hermione is so cute after Ron and Lavender split up.
- Aaaaw Harry's inner monologue about Ginny is supercute!
- Bloody hell. Malfoy crying confirms about everything I thought before. He's also just a boy. And he's not going to survive. This is heartbreaking.
- GAAAAAAAH WHAT DID HARRY DOOOOO???? Why does he suddenly use curses like that??
- Why doesn't he RETURN THE STUPID BOOK??? IDIOT!
- Harry and Ginny are cute.
- Snape creeps me out. Of course Harry goes on and on about this subject, but...(isn't it strange that apparently Harry turned out to be right all along??)
- When they set out to take the Horcrux I knew that Dumbledore was going to die.
- The whole Horcrux-affair was a bit scary.
- "I am not worried Harry. I am with you."
- The scene with Draco and Dumbledore was SO sad. I feel really sorry for Malfoy, I can't help it.
- And then it was all a general OMG NOOOO!!!
I mean, we all knew that Dumbledore was going to die sooner or later, but it was the way he was killed that made it really really horrible. The way he says "Severus" and that it sounds pleading and that Harry is suddenly frightened by that. And the look on Snape's face. And that Snape is, after all, evil. That all the theories about him, everything the reader believed him to be comes tumbling down. That was why I started crying, not because Dumbledore died, but because this character shouldn't have been one of the bad guys. Snape was far too complex to be "just evil" in my opinion, it was very appealing to have a character who would have been dark by nature be good in what he does. And he's not - or is he? I still can't believe it. I sat there with the book in my hands, tears everywhere and my mother came in and asked me if I was alright and what had happened, although she wants to read it too and didn't want to be spoiled. And I just said, "Snape killed Dumbledore" and she, even she, looked completely shocked and was like, "Nooo...that can't possibly happen..." But it has, hasn't it? It really has happened....and the way Snape behaved towards Harry destroyed every bit of hope I had.
Really, somewhere deep inside I still think that Snape is not bad. But then there's the reason why Dumbeldore trusted Snape and it's just like Lupin says, Snape hated James, he wouldn't have felt sorry if he died.
- Which leads me to Lupin, my very favourite character. God, I LOVE Lupin, I wish there would have been more of him in there. I feel so sorry for him. The way he collapses when they tell him that Dumbledore is dead didn't exactly stop me crying. It rather made me cry even more. I don't know why and I know it's pathetic, but I'm really afraid that Lupin is going to die soon. He'll try to kill Snape now that nothing stands between them anymore. In a way, Snape killed everyone Lupin loved: James and Lilly by giving Voldemort informaton about the prophecy; Sirius by telling him that he was lazy and scared because he didn't leave the house; and of course Dumbledore. And Lupin will never be able to kill Snape, no way.
- Also, Lupin and Tonks? I SWEAR that I read the scene between them somewhere before in almost excactly the same words. Fanfiction, probably. It seems a bit cheap and I'd rather have Lupin mourning Sirius for the rest of his life, but so be it. Good for them if they find some joy before they die. And I really liked Lupin too much to mind a lot that he's happy.
- God, the way nobody can really believe that Snape killed Dumbledore is just SO SAD!
- I really liked McGonagall in the whole scene in the hospital wing. She's so real. And realistic. God, she's going to die too, isn't she?
- Surprised that so few people died in this one, by the way.
- R.A.B. ... I immediately thought of Sirius brother, Regulus. Why? 1) Because in the letter it says "Dark Lord" which indicates, at least to me, that the writer was a Death Eater or at least a former follower of Voldemort. 2) He knows he is going to die. Regulus knew that because if you desert the Death Eaters you die. 3) He wants Voldemort to know that it was him who destroyed it. Regulus was always seen as weak, so he'd want to show off a bit.
Of course this theory might be utter shit, but that was my immediate first thought when I read the letter.
- Harry breaking it off with Ginny is so Spiderman. Do you reckon she'll still accompany him? I think she might, she's a fighter.
- Oh, and how can anyone still believe that Harry and Hermione are going to end up together in the end?
God, the next one will be DARK. Filled with deaths and mysterious secrets and very creepy Horcruxes. And I just know that I'm going to cry the entire book through because all my favourite characters have either turned out to be evil traitors or are going to die or are already dead:
1)
2) Remus Lupin Is going to die.
3) Ron Weasley Not sure about him, I don't think he's going to die.
4) Severus Snape Turned out to be an evil traitor who's going to kill favourite characters.
5) Draco Malfoy Well, Voldmort will kill him now, won't he?
How does Rowling want to fit all these loose ends into one book? And no more Hogwarts? Bloody Hell!
When I went to bed yesterday evening I had a headache and was feeling very numb. My eyes were all puffy too. Ironically, the song I listened to all day yesterday was "Apollo 13" by The Tears which turned out to be scarily fitting:
If you follow me I will follow you into the unknown
Like Apollo we'll fly to the moon
If you follow me I will follow you into the unknown
Like Apollo, like Apollo 13 we'll explode.
I love this song, but it didn't exactly cheer me up.
It's a really good book. Definitely better than Goblet of Fire and not as dark and scary as Order of the Phoenix. (I missed Sirius a lot though.) It reminded me a lot of my favourite, Prisoner of Azkaban, actually. I think I'll go re-read it now. All my friends who're going to read it are on holidays and can't get the book, so I'm going to start talking to myself soon, I'm afraid.
